 Benny Hinn and His Anointing

Benny Hinn is becoming one of the most popular and notorious of all the Word of Faith leaders, despite his many known false prophecies and questionable practises. Here are three reports to help you make up your mind whether Hinn is a genuine minister of God, or a deceiver playing dangerous games with Christians.

Report on the Denver Crusade

"Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?" James 3:10-11

NOTE: (C) Copyright 1999 Tricia Tillin of Banner Ministries. This article is COPYRIGHT material. It is NOT to be posted to mailing lists, newsgroups, websites or any other electronic or written medium.

My normal practice is to expose DOCTRINE, rather than PEOPLE. I believe that is the right way to show you how the apostasy is progressing.

However, there are certain key figures that exemplify the apostasy so clearly that what they say and do is an example in itself. There are also key revival figures who are, in my belief and estimation, so far outside true Christianity that they deserve no kid glove treatment from me.

One such figure is Benny Hinn, who is now so far gone in his "ministry" that he is growling and snarling like a beast, and cursing those who resist him. He is also manifesting classic signs of possession, for his voice changes to that of another person at times during his meetings.

His pride, his arrogance, his cavalier treatment of other people, his supernatural power, his whole manner, is so very far from the biblical norm that one wonders that Christians can sit and applaud his actions! Yet they do. Hinn mesmerises thousands!

  • This article is not the place for a thorough exposure of Hinn, his life and ministry. If you would like more details, here is a good place to begin.
  • You might also like to go to this site for more information.
  • And there is more information here.

My purpose in this article is to demonstrate Hinn's current condition using video footage (transcribed) from his meeting in Denver, held on September 17th 1999.

Although I cannot receive American TV broadcasts, I did download and carefully watch the video of this event from Hinn's web site, running the tape forwards and backwards where things were unclear. I also recorded key passages of the meeting, and you will find some of those sound clips here. You will hardly believe your ears!

[NB: I discovered after this article had been on the website for some times that, indeed, some people did NOT believe their ears - I have had several Hinn followers write to inform me that these clips are (in their opinion) not the voice of Benny Hinn. How sad that some people will not heed the warnings, even if they see and hear them for themselves. They would RATHER DENY THEIR OWN SENSES than COME TO THEIR SENSES.]

Fire Anointing

Not far into the meeting, Benny Hinn decided to throw the "fire anointing" on Paul Crouch, two other ministers [one called Ken (Copeland??)] and later a group of men, then the entire choir! All these people fell down immediately, and in the case of the ministers on stage, Hinn gruffly ordered that they should be hauled to their feet only so that he could throw them down again, a number of times.

During this time, Hinn was panting and growling like a lion, and working up to screams of "FIRE! FIRE!" in a way that should have terrified everyone rather than delighted them.

Cursing Opponents

But it gets worse. Not long afterwards, Hinn - in a strange growly voice that sounded like Darth Vader from Star Wars - uttered a curse on men and women who "dare to come against this ministry".

There can be no evasion of this charge. Hinn was very direct. He said "I place a curse on every man and every woman that would stretch his hand against this anointing; I curse that man who dares to speak a word against this ministry... "

This confirms the unbiblical endtimes plan as revealed in my other articles. It is believed by many in the revival that the day will come when the Church - particularly its "anointed apostles" - will stand in the place of God, as God on the earth. They will have all the authority of God to judge, to bless, to curse and to remove the "rebels" from their midst. This is what seems to have impelled Benny Hinn in Denver!

Blessing and Cursing in the Bible

Is what Hinn did biblical? No, it is not. We know that Balaam was employed to curse God's people, but he could not, for God's blessing was upon them, as he discovered to his cost.

...Balak the king of Moab hath brought me from Aram, out of the mountains of the east, saying, Come, curse me Jacob, and come, defy Israel. How shall I curse, whom God hath not cursed? or how shall I defy, whom the LORD hath not defied? Num 23:7-8

Job considered the act of cursing enemies a SIN - please read this:

If I rejoiced at the destruction of him that hated me, or lifted up myself when evil found him: Neither have I suffered my mouth to sin by wishing a curse to his soul. Job 31:29-30

Paul warned us not to curse our enemies (to hate them, to wish harm against them, and sincerely desire their downfall.)

Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not. Rom 12:14

The faith of the Psalmist is in God to shame those who curse the innocent, and to save those who are condemned in this way:

I became also a reproach unto them: when they looked upon me they shaked their heads. Help me, O LORD my God: O save me according to thy mercy: That they may know that this is thy hand; that thou, LORD, hast done it. Let them curse, but bless thou: when they arise, let them be ashamed; but let thy servant rejoice. Let mine adversaries be clothed with shame, and let them cover themselves with their own confusion, as with a mantle. I will greatly praise the LORD with my mouth; yea, I will praise him among the multitude. For he shall stand at the right hand of the poor, to save him from those that condemn his soul. (Ps 109:25-31)

And it gets worse yet.

After having pronounced a curse on his enemies and a blessing on his friends, Hinn explains that while "this anointing" is on him, his pronouncements cannot fail - in other words, he's infallible, rather like the Pope (or God?). He says "Under this anointing the words I speak cannot fall to the ground...everything I say happens". (You can hear this portion of Hinn's message by clicking on the link below, or downloading the sound clip.)

The "appearances of Jesus" prophecies
**WITH NEW AUDIO CLIPS**

As many of you already know, Ruth Heflin (the gold-dust lady! Now deceased) recently started a buzz in the churches by saying she had heard an audible voice telling her to inform Benny Hinn that Jesus Christ in person would be showing up in Hinn's meetings soon.

Benny Hinn both affirmed and added to this prophecy. No such thing has taken place. If it did, it could signal an even greater depth of deception about which we should warn the unwary. But since it did NOT, it adds to the burden of proof that Hinn and his fellow leaders are FALSE PROPHETS.

The genuine Jesus Christ is NOT going to pop in and grace Benny Hinn's meeting in person, now or at any other time. But I believe a physical apparition coiuld happen that would mimic the Lord Jesus, a lying sign and wonder.

I do not deny that Jesus COULD appear bodily on earth if he chose to do so. However, I do not believe the Son of God would descend from his heavenly seat at the right hand of the Father in order to affirm a false teacher (who curses his brothers and sisters) and to give validation to a false revival (for supporting information on this please see the other articles on this website).

Hinn's Statements

While telling his audience about the prophecy that Ruth Heflin had given him, Benny Hinn seems to betray a hesitation in his spirit, but he went on to accept and popularise Heflin's prophecies anyway. He is responsible before God for speaking these words and telling everyone they are from God..

Hinn quotes Ruth Heflin as saying "the Lord spoke to her audibly and told her, 'tell Benny I am going to show up on the platform at one of his meetings...' Lord, do it in Phoenix Arizona in the Name of Jesus, and in Kenya too Lord please..." (Full transcript below)

It is interesting and, I believe, relevant that the most publicised "appearance" in the flesh of the person called "The Christ" or the Maitreya by New-Age believers took place in - Nairobi, Kenya, the VERY PLACE where Benny Hinn's physical appearance of Jesus was supposed to take place.

NOTE: playing these clips online - some browsers cannot play wav sounds and will bring up an error page. This is NOT a problem with this website or web page. To play the clips you need to have some kind of audio file plug-in working through your browser. If you cannot play the clips online, simply download them and play them from your own hard disc.

"I’m gonna show you the power of God on young people, I know you may have seen this before, maybe you havn’t - if you have, you’ll get blessed all over again. I’m in Pheonix Arizona this Thursday and Friday. What you’re about to see is gonna happen there, so you in Pheonix make sure you show up for that crusade. Now, what you’re gonna see happens usually at the last night at the end of the service for the young people. It’s gonna be a powerful crusade, great, great things. Let me tell you something. The Holy Spirit has spoken, He told me He is about to show up. Oh, I gotta tell you this just before we go. I had a word of prophecy from Ruth Heflin, you know who Ruth Heflin is? Ruth prophesied over me back in the seventies. Everything she said has happened. She just sent me a word through my wife and said: The Lord spoke to her audibly and said, That He is going to appear physically in one of our crusades in the next few months. Yeah, She... I’m telling ya,.. she said, the Lord spoke to her audibly and said, tell Benny I’m going to appear physically on the platform in his meetings. Lord, do it in Phenox Arizona in the name of Jesus! And in Kenya too, Lord, please, Lord, in fact, do it in every crusade. In Jesus’ name." BENNY HINN -- FALSE PROPHET EXTRORDINAIRE

By Jackie Alnor

TV mega-preacher, Benny Hinn, used a false prophecy to extort millions of dollars from unsuspecting victims. He warned TBN's TV audience that 1999 was going to be a year of plenty and the year 2000 would bring disaster.

He threatened the viewers that those who didn't double their giving in 1999 would not survive the year 2000. Even the donors who had already called in their pledges were ordered to call back and increase their giving or face the consequences. This alone certifies Benny Hinn as a false prophet.

This isn't the first time Hinn has prophesied falsely. Back in 1989 he prophesied to his congregation at the Orlando Christian Center in Florida what he was seeing for the decade of the 1990s.

  • "The Lord also tells me to tell you in mid 90's -- about '94 or '95, no later than that -- God will destroy the homosexual community of America . . . He will destroy it with fire."

  • "The Spirit of God tells me -- an earthquake will hit the east coast of America and destroy much in the 90's."

  • "The Spirit tells me -- Fidel Castro will die in the 90's. . . Holy Spirit just said to me, it'll be worse than any death you can imagine."

After 20 minutes of prophesying to his congregation that night, Hinn appeared to be "drunk in the spirit." When he came to his senses he said, "I'd like to know what I said. I was totally gone."

Yet no matter how many times Hinn's false prophecies have been exposed, he still performs to overflowing crowds in stadiums around the world.

Hinn shares his latest blunder with 700-Club founder, Pat Robertson, though Robertson could not be reached to verify his involvement.

It was the spring, 1999 Praise-a-Thon, Trinity Broadcasting Network's (TBN), bi-annual fund-raiser, seen around the world via satellite. From the discussion between Paul & Jan Crouch and their guests, pledges were down because people were apprehensive anticipating potential troubles arising from Y2K hysteria. 'Prophet' Hinn exhorted TBN's supporters to not let Y2K fears affect their donations.

Hinn started out by establishing his credentials as a prophet of God. He called upon TBN's fellow guests for help in interpreting a disturbing dream he had had. "I do not fully understand it," he lamented, "but I really believe it deals with what God is about to do in the world."

He gave a long narrative of his mystical dream that he said was "more of a vision of the night" than a dream. "In this dream, I did not see his face," Hinn began. "Everything in me knew it was the prophet Elijah . . . I walked up to him and he was turning water into blood." Hinn continued, "As I came to him, he said to me, 'Take this!' I took the rod from him.".

When he finished, fellow guest Mark Chirona, offered the interpretation:

"The formless essence of Elijah is the spirit of Elijah that God promised to pour out on the last days' company of seasoned ministry that will literally fulfill everything that God promised under the old covenant that would come into the new covenant of a prophetic order that would change the course of history."

Hinn responded. "I feel the anointing here while he is talking!"

Chirona continued:

"And when Elijah handed you the rod, God was putting in your hand a new level of apostolic authority for the nations. . . You are entering into a new age of the miraculous. There will be a sharpening, for the spirit of Elijah rests on you."

Hinn laid out his first prophetic message under Elijah's mantle:

"Pat Robertson, in January, said 'I have just come out of two days of prayer and fasting. The Lord has said to me that this year, 1999, would be the greatest year for the body of Christ, economically and spiritually, but beginning the year 2000, disasters would hit in the world, economically and otherwise, and only those in the church who have been giving to God would be spared.'"

Turning his attention to the viewers, Hinn said:

"So when I say to you here and in your home, increase your seed, God knows you can and you must because if you do not, you will be the one to suffer."

TBN supporters then jammed the phones in order to survive the coming year of disaster. Hinn gave dire warnings to those who pledge and then fail to follow through.

"And one final thing, if you break your promise, hear this! Some of you make a pledge and along the way you decide to forget about it. The Bible says God will destroy the work of your hands if you do that . . . We can't play games with him!"

"Now, some of you will have to step out in faith tonight; you may not even have the money right now. In fact, most times you make a pledge you don't even have it."

Then he followed up with a warning to the skeptics:

"You know, you do not get under the kind of anointing I get under just because you sing hallelujah...There's a heavy price and I would not want to be in the shoes of the one who touches the anointing. Don't touch the anointing!"

"I'm giving you a prophetic word. You know the scripture says they prospered because they obeyed his prophets. I'm telling you tonight, I'm speaking prophetically. Obey the Lord!"

Hinn had a solution for those who were short on cash, -- liquidate!

"You know if I was you and God spoke to me like this, I'd take it out of my investments to give it to God now cause it's already spring and the year 2000 is almost next door."

So now that the year 2000 has come and gone with no casualties to count, will TBN refund the extorted funds?
